Observing Yin, Carving and Recording

My grandfather carved gravestones for the dead.

Before he died, he passed me a carving knife. One character was engraved on its handle: “Guan.”

I thought it was just a mark of our family craft, until I used it to carve a gravestone for the first time.

The stone split open by itself.

A hand reached out through the crack and grabbed my wrist.

There was an eye growing in the palm of that hand.
