The apocalypse descends, insectoid armies sweep across the stars, and human civilization collapses overnight. Zhao Ming, a former special forces soldier, survives among the ruins with a chip that can read insectoid thoughts. He only meant to keep his head down, but by chance he saves a female researcher, takes on a sharp-tongued apprentice, and picks up a hot-tempered mech mechanic as his mentor. Not enough resources? Take them from the insectoids. Mech broken? His mentor fixes it. Enemies show up? Activate the chip, and the insectoids become his allies. But each use of the chip costs him a year of his life, and every enemy is deadlier than the last. Zhao Ming scratches his head: in this apocalypse, am I killing the insectoids, or are they killing me?
