I’m the proprietress of a paper effigy shop.
Grandpa said livestreaming could prolong my life, so every day I stream myself making paper offerings.
Day 1: Three people watched my stream, and I lived three extra days.
Day 100: Thirty thousand people watched, and I felt like I might never die.
But on Day 101, I made a paper bride.
On Day 102, someone really did jump to her death wearing a red wedding dress.
On Day 103, the silent viewer called “Anonymous” sent a message in the chat:
“The hundredth paper effigy you made was me.”
That was when I realized
Every paper offering I make becomes real in this world.
Every extra day of life I gain is paid for with someone else’s life.
And now, the “Chief Paper Puppet” I made is sitting in my livestream, waiting for me to finish making the 101st one.
