Mo Li blacked out and woke up inside a turbulent-era novel about contending for the Central Plains, though plenty of things didn't match the book.
For one, everyone here was always going on about ghosts and gods, and drank talisman water whenever they got sick. But the Son of Heaven's Mandate, Prince Jin, was still the same!
Mo Li had spent three years in a remote border town. The old man who taught her medicine had died, and only Prince Jin knew the dying wish he had never managed to voice.
Mo Li had already planned to leave. On the night before she departed, she encountered a ghost. The ghost had only just put on a human skin. A black shadow took human form before her, boldly claiming to be Prince Jin.
Could she believe that? Mo Li was no fool. She put her talents to work, tricked him until he had nothing left, and figured out his weakness. Then she found a naturally formed sinkhole and kicked him into it.
When she reached Prince Jin's manor, the System, three years late, assigned her a mission: “Help Prince Jin become emperor and bring the chaotic era to an early end!”
Mo Li nodded calmly. That was exactly what she was doing.
The System was delighted. Hearing that Prince Jin wasn't at the manor, it immediately activated all its functions. A few seconds later, the System scratched its nonexistent head. “Prince Jin... he's at the bottom of a pit?”
Mo Li: “...”
After checking the facts, Mo Li tried to defend herself. “He was so stupid.”
The System: “He had amnesia.”
Her conscience suddenly started to ache. A moment later, Mo Li asked sincerely, “Why is Prince Jin a ghost?”
The System laughed cheerfully. “Because we're in a heavily altered version! The male lead is the corrupted version! When he gets his memories back, we're doomed!”
Mo Li: What exactly are you so cheerful about??
