In 1854, after a storm off the coast of Ningbo, a British merchant ship rescued a young man among the rocks. He comes from the earth in the 21st century. He has just received the customs admission notice after taking the public examination. He is from the history department - and he knows far more than anyone in this era can imagine.
He unexpectedly got acquainted with Hurd in his youth - the General Taxation Department who would be in charge of China Customs for half a century. The two were both enemies and friends, and their lifelong bond was quietly settled at the Ningbo dock in 1854.
As a blue star in the normal world of the earth, this time is at a crossroads of national humiliation: the Opium War was lost, the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom was in flames, and the great powers were still waiting for carving up. He glimpsed the secrets of Yangming Dongtian in the maze of consciousness, and also saw a road to save the country that spanned ninety years - but the price was that every time he changed history, he had to swallow the unspeakable secrets.
Following Hurd, he walks on the edge of a dilemma every day. He knows history, but can't say a word; he has a secret in the sky, temptation and danger coexist; the life and death of the people around him are intertwined with the direction of history. He saved Zhou Xiuying and fought against Wu Jianzhang; he and Hart were brothers in life and death, but they were destined to be opposites in terms of national stance. In the end, he handed over Dongtian to General Chen amidst the gunfire of Shanghai's liberation, completing his most important promise to this nation.
This is an epic in which time-travelers compete with historical giants in modern customs and rewrite the destiny of the nation on the blade of time paradox.
