He found books in the pockets of his prey and, by the light of an oil lamp, slowly began to understand a world he had never truly entered. He had no idea where he came from or where his kind were. All he knew was that every week, human soldiers seeking a bounty came knocking, only to become his next meal.
Then one day, he found a baby girl among a pile of corpses.
He raised her by his side and named her Xue Mo. He thought she was just a brief diversion to stave off boredom, until one blood-red dusk, an elven scout came to his door and told the girl she was the long-lost princess of the Elven Court.
