In Beilin's central city, there is an ordinary, if somewhat unusual, student. His parents died in a severe train accident, but he did not feel much grief.
Severe psychological illness threw his mind off balance, leaving him numb and cold. Losing his parents at an early age meant his mind no longer developed like those of other children his age. He feels exhausted and helpless every day. To the outside world, he is an outcast. Strange, unstable, bizarre: all kinds of labels are slapped onto him one after another.
"Slapped on" is such a gentle phrase, isn't it? But to someone as meticulous and sensitive as he is, those labels feel like thorns digging deep into his wounded heart.
"They say I'm covered in thorns, but they don't realize... they're the ones who put every one of them there."
"The doctor says I need to make peace with the world. But how am I supposed to do that? They all ignore me. I really envy them."
"They laughed at me again and called me a monster. I feel awful today. My stomach hurts, my fingertips are numb and cold, and my head is spinning and aching."
This is a child's diary. He is only a child, yet he has been forced to confront the cruelty of society far too soon. His arms are covered in densely packed cuts and scratches. In summer, he wears long sleeves and a jacket.
One summer, beneath the blazing sun that scorched the earth, through a haze he heard a girl call his name:
"Hello, Shen Jin. I'm your new deskmate."
