I'm an Internet Operations Director, Selling Cloth in Ancient Times

After transmigrating to the Wanli era, Lin Chen opened his eyes to find himself in debt to the tune of three thousand taels.

A shabby cloth shop, a ledger full of bad debts, and a young shop assistant with eyes swollen from crying.

Others turned their lives around through the imperial examinations. He didn't.

With a bolt of indigo cloth, he would conquer Suzhou one step at a time.

Assembly lines, color swatches, piecework for women workers: he brought modern business methods to a Ming dynasty dye house, and its monthly turnover topped one hundred taels.

His boats plied the Grand Canal, and his cloth sold in Songjiang and Hangzhou.

Someone had their eye on him.

The Shanxi merchants, the Suzhou Silk Bureau, hidden forces at court: they all wanted a bite.

But with every step he took, another line appeared in his mind.

He had no backer.

He was his own backer.
