In the twelfth lunar month of 1987, Zhao Laowen, an old hunter in Dawa Village, rescued a seriously injured weasel. That night, he dreamed of an old man in a yellow mantle calling himself "Master Huang San" to repay his kindness. From then on, he could just call "Third Master" and return home with a full load. Gradually he became the "Fragrance Man" among the villagers and built a fairy hall in the east room. Grandpa Huang San taught him how to see a doctor, search for things, and resolve affairs. During a severe drought, he directed him to dig a clear spring and saved the whole village. However, this also attracted the revenge of the black snake spirit in Nanshan. Huang San settled the fight at the cost of ten years of retirement. However, the greater the reputation, the more right and wrong. The fox fairy Hu Santai came to poach him and lured him to use magic for profit. The security team entered the village to arrest the "feudal superstition". Huang San exhausted his magic power to protect him and the villagers and escaped into Changbai Mountain for seclusion. Zhao Laowen refused the temptation of the Hu family and wandered in the mountains to practice, eventually leaving behind a handwritten copy of "The Book of Preservation of the Family" to be passed down to future generations. On New Year's Eve, the rice porridge under the old elm tree no longer disappears, but a memorial tablet is erected in the cultural pavilion at the entrance of the village, which reads: "To protect the family immortals, you protect the family - Mr. Huang Santai and Zhao Laowen will be remembered forever in Dawa Village." People and immortals take different paths, but they all lead to the same destination. It is never the immortals who really protect their homes, but the people themselves. Immortals just help people find that breath and that thought, and then retreat silently into the mountains, watching the smoke curling up from the cooking pots, year after year.
