Zhilei used to be a mountain trail designer. After a heavy rain three years ago, the trail she designed experienced slight displacement. No one was injured, but she believed it was her fault. She retired from the design position and became a technician at the lowest level to adjust the rebound of shock-absorbing pads on the overhead walkway - squatting at a height of 100 meters every day, feeling the softness and hardness of each rubber pad with her hands, so that wind can flow under the feet of pedestrians.
Shen Du is the inspector of this trail. During the same heavy rain three years ago, a tourist on the coastal trail he was responsible for stepped on and sprained due to weak rebound of the pads. He was transferred from his original post. He lives in the tool room at the beginning of the trail and walks 3.2 Kilometers every day, checking every crack.
The two met again at an altitude of 100 meters. An adjustment pad and a recording data are like two lines that should be parallel suddenly intersecting. When the pads are too hard, the feet will be shaken when stepped on. They will be softened for walking comfort and weakened for load-bearing cracks. They use the skill of adjusting the pads to smooth out the old injuries on the opponent's body bit by bit.
But some deformations are permanent. When the pads finally adapted to bear the weight of the trail, and when the two finally adapted to each other's scars, they discovered that they could adapt to the past, but they could not adapt to the rest of their lives.
