What you think of as the literary classic Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio is actually a collection of strange-tale fragments accidentally leaked over thousands of years, compiled into books by generation after generation of ordinary people. And “Pu Songling” has never been just one person. It is the name of a mysterious family that has secretly upheld the order for generations, hidden in plain sight.
In today's cities, ghosts and fox spirits have not vanished. They live among office towers, viral livestreams, and data algorithms. Pu Xiaosong, the fourteenth-generation heir of the Pu family, accidentally awakens the “Vision of Strange Tales.” Armed with handwritten supplements left behind by generations of ancestors, he confronts the supernatural beings that have returned to the modern world, alone in the dark.
