The Gods Are Blind, and All Mortals Walk in Ignorance

In the eyes of "Foolishness," the world is nothing but a circus put on to entertain It. But It doesn't merely seek the farce unfolding onstage. It is enthralled by every part of the circus. It is both audience and performer. It is obsessed with smearing on thick, multicolored greasepaint and acting out ridiculous scenes onstage, sneering at the audience; it is also immersed in a broad, radiant grin as it enjoys the hilarious antics from the seats below, laughing at the clowns. People are performers below the stage, and people are spectators onstage. If so, what meaning is there in the actions of performers and spectators? All living beings are merely taking part in one grand display of folly.
