Shu Leran was walking home from the market when he failed to notice the unloading gate of a freight truck and got killed by it. He thought he’d awaken some ridiculously powerful magical talent in this Western fantasy world, but his test revealed the most useless kind: “domestic magic.” It could only dust and cook, and he couldn’t even conjure a fireball! Luckily, his cooking skills got him into the top magic academy on the continent... as a cafeteria server.

One night, Shu Leran found a bloodied white dog in the hills behind the academy. Figuring he might as well put it to use, he healed it with domestic magic, then fed it a bite of meat stewed with specially prepared garlic. He named it Xiaobai, hoping it would guard the house and protect his vegetable garden.

But the next day, the white dog had turned into a handsome, white-haired man with a model’s physique. He sat at the foot of Shu Leran’s bed, scowling, with a suspicious smear of grease at the corner of his mouth.

“Give me another bowl of that same dark cuisine from last night, or I’ll bite you to death, you uncouth human.”
