The Life of a Bastard: Almost Everything Went Smoothly

"The Life of a Bastard" is about an ordinary young man's clumsy self-rescue after being repeatedly pushed back by life. Zhou Laishun is not smart enough to turn around, nor is he unlucky enough to deserve praise. He just wants to find a job, pay the rent, and avoid getting into trouble, but he always encounters the most ridiculous rules in the most normal places. There is no overnight wealth here, and there is no protagonist's halo. There are only interviews, trials, certifications, explanations, owing money, moving, and the little embarrassments that ordinary people have to swallow every day. The story is a little funny, but also a little sad, like a wrinkled life receipt: the amount is not big, but the details are many. Zhou Laishun talks hard and shows timidity all the time, but also uses a less advanced optimism to save himself from the bad days.
