A stark class divide, modern-day household slaves, and aristocratic clans: this is a bizarre world where modernity and antiquity intertwine. High technology is everywhere, yet people’s thinking remains trapped in the depths of slavery.

“Household slaves” have no status and no freedom; their lives are worth less than grass. Some are prisoners captured in defeat, others descendants of families condemned for crimes. They’re born with everything taken from them. The child of a slave will always be a slave. Want to earn freedom from your status? You can only risk your life and achieve a feat without precedent.

The three legitimate brothers of one of the Empire’s three great families control its economic lifelines and the fates of countless household slaves. As the imperial court rots and foreign enemies close in, a storm that could topple the Empire is brewing. The brothers are forced into the whirlpool of power. Their tangled relationships with their respective household slaves, filled with love and hate, exploitation, betrayal, and redemption, will ultimately tear their family apart, ignite the Empire, and rewrite the fate of an era.
