Light comedy × mutual firsts × childhood friends × mismatched Systems × a cast full of drama queens
Jiang Xianxian is an extreme-sports blogger. She can redpoint a 5.12 climbing route, and when surfing, she’ll chase the biggest waves on a shortboard. Her life motto is: “If I can solve it with my fists, I’m not putting on an act.”
Until one day, she gets bound to a “Doom-Seeking Female Side Character” System.
The System’s demands: pretend to twist her ankle, knock over props, and make snide remarks to her childhood friend. In other words, become a proper scheming, troublemaking green tea girl.
Meanwhile, her archenemy Jiang Nong gets bound to a “Devoted Male Side Character” System. His mission is to tell another childhood friend, Zhuo Yunjian, “For you, I could take on the whole world.”
The problem is
Jiang Xianxian and Jiang Nong have been fighting since they were kids.
For him to act head-over-heels in front of her? That’s harder than making him eat cilantro.
For her to go all “boo-hoo” in front of him? She’d rather climb Everest again.
Even more absurdly, all four childhood friends know they’ve been bound to the wrong Systems. The original heroine, Zhuo Yunjian, silently opens her phone camera, while the original hero, Wang Jianwen, unhurriedly brings out four bowls of mung bean soup.
“Since we can’t get unbound,” Jiang Nong says, setting down his bowl, “let’s trick it. The System wrote the script, but we decide how to perform it.”
And so begins a “reluctant performance” for tens of thousands of followers. A staged fall turns into a climbing technique demonstration, a passionate confession becomes a backhanded compliment, and a bottle they can’t open becomes a showdown of peak acting.
The eight great regional cuisines are their secret code, and their million-follower accounts are their stage.
The System thinks it’s directing a melodramatic soap opera.
In reality, the real show is how the four of them manage to pull it off right under the System’s nose
