Synopsis
Su Ci opens her eyes to find herself a doomed, favored concubine, destined to be sacrificed to heaven by a tyrant in a rainmaking ritual. Among the imperial guards, she spots the “future founding emperor,” the man about to kill the tyrant with a single stab.
She leans close to the assassin's ear and accurately explains the crescent-shaped scar behind his left ear. His blade pauses.
One needs to stay alive; the other wants to rebel. Beneath the palace walls, carrier pigeons deliver secret messages. At court, they work together to set their schemes in motion. She thinks this is merely a deal to save her life, unaware that the man who will later become emperor will, at his empress's coronation, untie his dragon-carved jade pendant before the assembled court and fasten it around her waist. “I won my realm with her, one strike and one drop of blood at a time.”
From “You want to kill me” to “I want only you.” This is the story of a doomed concubine who turns the future emperor from an enemy into her devoted loyalist.
