It is obvious that the author wanted to write a work about human nature and redemption. And, he succeeded. No matter the writing style, plot, reversal, or ending, they are all in line with the original concept. There is only one reason why people are cynical: not all mistakes can be forgiven. People want those who have made big mistakes to be punished because of public order and good customs, and because they have normal outlook on life, which is a good thing. As a human novel, it succeeds. As a commercial novel, it failed!
