Guijiang 1935: Bright Sword, The Dragon Rises in the South Seas

On January 18, 1935, the Zunyi Conference came to a close. The Central Red Army was trapped in northern Guizhou, surrounded by enemy forces from several directions, short on food and medicine, with wounded soldiers everywhere.

A temporal upheaval tore the land asunder, cutting off all of modern Guangxi from the outside world. A wall of fog divided two eras: within it, cities, hospitals, factories and mines, and the military and police systems remained intact; beyond it lay a war-torn borderland in the Republic of China era.

Though Guangxi had medical, transport, and supply advantages, it held firm to its limits: it would not interfere with the Red Army's command, alter the Long March route, or unilaterally break the deadlock by force.

All assistance was limited to perimeter security, emergency treatment, and basic supplies. It could ease the suffering at hand, but not overstep its role or take the place of the forebears on their journey.

Fog shrouds Guizhou and Guangxi, as two generations of Chinese stand gazing at each other across the divide. There is no shortcut to rewriting history, only a vigil across time.

Note: This is an alternate-history work of fiction. Major historical events of the Long March follow the official historical record, while the grassroots characters are original creations.
