Baba Mountain has a radius of hundreds of miles and consists of three natural villages, connected to the outside world by a dirt road. There is only a dilapidated health center left over from the commune period in the village. The nearest county town has to climb two mountains. Hunters and herb collectors are the main labor force. The village chief is a respected old hunter. There has been a trend of going to sea to do business outside the mountains, but deep in the mountains still follow the ancient law of "depending on the mountain and eating the mountain". The female protagonist chooses to stay in the past and use advanced knowledge to build China's earliest genetic laboratory, while the male protagonist becomes her most reliable guardian.
