[Hospital Playlist fanfiction]
My last memory was of my blood pressure steadily dropping beneath the surgical lights, and my assistant's trembling voice.
When I opened my eyes again, I was lying in a stuffy room. Cicadas shrilled outside the window, and an exam admission ticket for the recently concluded college entrance exams lay on the desk.
Name: Lee Ik-jun.
A professor of modern medicine had transmigrated into the body of nineteen-year-old Lee Ik-jun.
That year, he hadn't yet entered medical school or met Chae Song-hwa, Kim Jun-wan, Yang Seok-hyeong, and Ahn Jeong-won. He hadn't yet become the hepatobiliary-pancreatic surgery professor who was always smiling and singing, as if he could solve anything.
I thought that, with memories of the future, I could at least make fewer mistakes, save more people, and spare them some regrets.
But medicine has never been an exam you can pass just by knowing the answers.
I'd be limited by my youth, by the equipment of the time, and by fate itself.
I'd also meet again the people who didn't know me yet.
Nineteen-year-old Chae Song-hwa, earnest and stubborn, taking notes on every single word at the freshman orientation.
Nineteen-year-old Kim Jun-wan, sharp and caustic, looking at everyone as if they were a substandard case.
Nineteen-year-old Yang Seok-hyeong, so quiet he seemed like part of the scenery, yet always ready to offer someone a packet of tissues at their most miserable moment.
Nineteen-year-old Ahn Jeong-won, almost too gentle, and almost too fragile.
And I had become Lee Ik-jun.
This summer was long. Long enough for me to put on a white coat again, get to know them again, and remember why I'd chosen medicine.
And long enough to make me understand:
A second chance isn't about becoming a more perfect doctor.
The second creation of a witty doctor's life. I started to practice in the first thirty or forty chapters, and then gradually entered the rhythm.
