[Mystery and the supernatural + no romance + mildly frightening + largely ensemble cast + conspiracies + plot-focused + anti-cliché]
“There are already plenty of mad dogs in the underworld. What’s one more?”
The underworld has an office called Mingqu. It is divided into five regions: east, south, west, north, and center. Each has its own Yin officers, known as the Children of Mingqu. They travel between yin and yang, hunt ghosts, solve cold cases, banish evil spirits, and guard the gates of the underworld in their respective regions.
Two years ago, a mentally ill woman moved into a convenience store in Linyu Town. She spent her days staring into space in the sun, drinking tea and listening to music, carefree and at peace with the world.
Yet she seemed to be hiding a secret no one knew about.
Then, one by one, a number of strange people arrived in town. An opera singer, a sword performer, a fortune-teller, a star-chart reader, someone with wings...
And it all had something to do with the century-old ghost sealed beneath Shilun Mountain.
After a series of twists and turns, the trail led to a century-spanning drama...
One day, they would finally realize that it had all been a conspiracy...
(Republican-era China + modern day, the worlds of yin and yang, mildly absurd, a coming-of-age journey, ghost hunting, friendship, conspiracies, revolution, mostly female characters. The overall tone is fairly humorous because the protagonist is mentally ill.)
(A long novel. The setup in the early chapters may feel a little slow, and there are many clues planted along the way. Never believe only what you see. The Republican-era arc begins in Chapter 22, and the plot is packed!)
(Keep reading, keep reading, keep reading! I promise it only gets better as you go <(ºOº)>!!)
The opera stage is set, Nuo warriors clear the way, and ten thousand ghosts flee.
The curtain rises, the drums and gongs resound, and the show begins
I feel like the author's writing style is okay. The pace of the plot may be a bit slow in the first few chapters, but it becomes more exciting as you read later. The protagonist seems to be the kind of character who is white and black. The characters are complex and distinctive, the dialogues are quite interesting, and there is still a lot of suspense. I look forward to solving the mystery later, and the author will continue to update!
Looks good! I feel that the characters are well created and very immersive. I hope the author will write more and more!
It's so beautiful, I'm immersed in it, I hope the author can work harder and write more 🤔🤔
The early rhythm is soothing and depressing, and you can patiently follow Yan Xu to dismantle the fog bit by bit, and then you will understand how much potential this slow-burn suspense book has.
