My older brother died.
One of his friends said it was because he saved someone.
Another friend of his said someone had killed him.
Bai Lingzhao seeks out the person her brother saved, wanting to know what kind of person her brother would save even at the cost of her life.
She also plans to find her brother’s killer while staying close to this person.
Ruan Lanzhu thinks she’s deliberately approached him with an ulterior motive. (Brother Ruan has figured it out.)
Ling Jiushi thinks he’s met someone who favors him above everyone else. (Ling Ling has been fooled.)
Chen Fei thinks he’s met a girl who depends on him and is in love with him. (Actually, you’re a stand-in for her brother.)
Cheng Qianli thinks he’s met someone on the same wavelength. (Actually, you’re both just equally silly.)
When the truth finally comes out,
they discover that each of them has fallen for a different personality sharing the same body:
The cold, proud painter Lingzhao and Ruan Lanzhu
The timid, depressed Linger and Chen Fei
The lively, impossibly strong Xiaobai and Cheng Qianli
The gentle-looking, brilliantly clever Xiaozhao and Ling Jiushi
[Guys, even though I’ve listed the couples, their romantic storylines do overlap. Li Dongyuan initially develops a transference and falls for Lingzhao, but later becomes attracted to Linger. Ruan Lanzhu and Xiaozhao are both too clever. Brother Ruan admires her but can’t bring himself to like her. Lingzhao isn’t as clever as Xiaozhao, but she’s endured a lot in silence, just like Brother Ruan, so his feelings for Lingzhao grow from sympathy into love. Ling Jiushi is simply into Xiaozhao’s type. Xiaobai and Cheng Qianli haven’t really awakened to love yet, and their thought processes are very similar.]
Of course, some couples get broken up, and the characters who died in the original story still die here.
But everyone gets a happy ending.
