Pregnancy Forged Her into a Blade

A new book has just launched. I look forward to your comments and reviews.

At seven months pregnant, her rounded belly held an unfulfilled promise.

Fu Yanli’s voice message was still on her phone: “When I get back, I’ll go take maternity photos with you.” Full of happiness, she counted the days on her fingers. Then the alarm shattered the dusk, its icy blade of a sound pinning her to the carpet: a car accident on the highway home. Dead on the scene.

She hadn’t even learned how to grieve when the front door was smashed open. A bodyguard in black said without expression, “By order of the board, the posthumous child’s identity is unknown. The pregnancy must be terminated immediately.” Her husband’s body was barely cold, and her in-laws already had a knife at her belly.

Under the blinding operating-room lights, as the needle’s cold glint drew near, she shoved past the nurse and escaped.

Ten years passed.

A winter under a bridge, hard, cold steamed buns, and fists from the men chasing her. Her seven-month pregnancy bled half a basin’s worth of blood in a back-alley clinic before she heard a baby cry. Three jobs, calloused hands, and a rented room with a leaking roof. Her son was born with a gift for medicine: he could identify a hundred herbs at three, perform acupuncture at eight, and make a name for himself throughout the world by ten.

Ten years later.

Irrefutable evidence was laid out, page by page. The mastermind was sent to prison, and the accomplices were ruined. Every step she had taken to claw her way out of the mire had become a blade that struck today.

Ten years of enduring the cold, until the bones that bore a child became a blade.
