The story begins at the start of the second year of high school.
Xu Zhixia transfers to Nanchuan No. 1 High School. She’s an excellent student, but quiet by nature, used to keeping all her feelings hidden. She only wants to get through high school in peace, but in her new class, she meets Lu Jingcheng.
Lu Jingcheng is acknowledged by the entire year as a born winner: he gets great grades, comes from a good family, and is handsome. But he isn’t a gentle, traditional dreamboat. He’s laid-back, proud, and not much of a joiner. He seems not to care about anything, but in reality, he’s trapped by his family’s expectations and his own self-doubt.
The two start out as deskmates and go through misunderstandings, growing closer, drifting apart, standing side by side, parting, and reuniting. The early story follows secret crushes and growing up on campus; the middle focuses on the college entrance exams, long distance at university, and diverging dreams; and the later story follows them reconnecting as adults and choosing each other all over again.
