After being struck by a heavy truck while trying to help someone in danger, Sun Hao is crushed to a pulp, but the accident proves to be a blessing in disguise: he awakens the “Golden Body of Merit” within him.
Guanyin Bodhisattva gives him a life-saving hair and leaves him with these words:
“Benefit all under heaven, and you will earn three thousand merits and complete your cultivation.”
Sun Hao thinks he is about to become a Buddha, only to discover that helping an old lady cross the street earns him just one merit point.
And so, Yuzhou University gains a strange fellow with a “Mediterranean” hairstyle, who spends every day chasing after people to ask:
“Need a hand, classmate? No need to thank me, just call me Sun the Great Benefactor!”
“Heh heh, Brother Monkey, get your act together. When you become a Buddha, don’t forget to save me some tasty offerings so I can keep my title as the Altar-Cleansing Envoy.”
