Liu Ling, 23, a college graduate. Her greatest achievement in life: being the “Best NPC” at a murder mystery game shop.

The day her parents dragged her to the City God Temple to pray for a job, she tripped and bumped into a white-bearded old man who claimed to be a “retired Matchmaker”:

“In your past life, you owed me 129,600 red strings. If you don't pay them back, you'll give off the rotten scent of osmanthus, and stray cats will mob you wherever you go.”

From then on, her daily life took a sudden turn:

She matched strangers on the subway, set up cashiers with customers at the supermarket, and even found matches for the neighborhood delivery guy.

The old man said he'd arrange a steady job for her once she'd earned enough merit, so she threw herself into the work!

Then she met a composed young grassroots official from the neighborhood office, a Peking University graduate.

He said expressionlessly, “You got my paperwork dirty. That's the fourth time this year.”

She leaned in for a sniff. Why did this man have a golden heart-flutter string she couldn't tug?

Only later did she understand:

She could tie red strings for other people, but her heart beat only for him.

“Forget taking the civil service exam. I want to be the Matchmaker.”

“No. You're going to be Mrs. Zhou.”

Sociable matchmaker intern × aloof heartthrob

A thousand heart-fluttering moments for the sweetest encounter of all.
