Harry Potter: Between Black and White

Draco Malfoy × Raven Hawke

“Beware of false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves.”, The Gospel of Matthew

Draco was a young wolf, suffocated by the shackles of pure-blood heritage, while Raven was a sacrifice the Hawke family had offered to the abyss.

At their first meeting, the boy’s gray eyes were steeped in venom, and arrogance was the only armor he had.

“Hawke, can those eyes of yours, which have gazed into hell, illuminate the dungeons of the Malfoy family?”

Raven merely looked up coldly, the golden irises reflecting an ancient astral incantation that pierced the endless night.

“No, but my Shadow Anchor can pin your false arrogance down with precision.”

Their sharp exchanges were their most twisted way of testing one another.

Until that desperate summer night, deep in the dungeons, when she used Shadow Anchor for the first time to pin down the Dark Mark burning on his wrist. He trembled all over with pain, cold sweat soaking through his robes, yet he gritted his teeth and managed a broken smile through the agony. “Hawke, you can’t bear to let me die.”

Her expression stayed cold as she held down his trembling wrist, but her fingertips betrayed a faint shiver from deep within her soul.

Later, he became a beast trapped in a broom cupboard, abandoned by fate. She pushed open the door and tossed him half an orange, still warm from her hand. Her fingertips brushed his cold-sweat-damp palm, and she left him with a frigid “You deserve it.”

That tart, golden sweetness became the only taste he could never recapture in the endless darkness of the rest of his life.

She was a raven who could snatch seven lives back from the Dark Lord’s mark, a blade moving between the worlds of light and darkness.

The hawk of the Hawke family should embrace the sun.
