The protagonist is Lu Chen, an eighteen-year-old orphan who was abandoned at the gate of a Taoist temple. He was raised by his master Qingxuan Zhenren. On the surface, his personality is lazy and easy-going, but in fact he is thoughtful, affectionate and righteous, with a stubbornness that refuses to admit defeat.
