[Mutual healing + love that goes both ways + designers + modern romance]
Architectural prodigy Gu Zhangnan is struck by a terminal illness at the height of his career and confined to a wheelchair. He shuts himself away in a seaside apartment, clinging to life on a niche forum under the anonymous ID “L.S.”
Qin Xiaoxiao, an international student in a design program, has failed her final project and has no way to pay her tuition. By chance, she stumbles across the forum and is struck to the soul by the gentle designs posted by “L.S.”
She is the one person he’s willing to speak to, his “Nora.”
He is the only one who lights her way forward, “Teacher L.”
Then, with nowhere else to turn, she applies to be the part-time housekeeper for an employer in a wheelchair.
The moment she opens the study door, she sees “L.S.” in the bottom-right corner of a sketch.
The light she’s looked up to is being swallowed by death, inch by inch.
And he had recognized her long ago as the girl who asked clumsy questions.
“Sometimes I think it might be better if I were gone,” he says.
With tears in her eyes, she replies, “You taught me how to see the world. I’m going to make sure you’re here to watch me graduate.”
He pours what remains of his strength into raising her from a good-for-nothing at her final project to a true designer.
Day after day, she stays by his side, helping him go from waiting to die in despair to smiling as he watches dozens more sunsets.
On graduation day, she holds up her award and says, “All the light comes from one person.”
Down below, he smiles softly from his wheelchair.
This is a story of two people choosing each other and finding salvation in one another.
I taught you to become a light, and you brightened the rest of my life.
Because you came into my world, it will never be gray again.
