In the Ancient City, I Meet You Year After Year

A century of upheaval passes, and the world turns until they meet again.

A modern variety show films in an ancient city, where Wang Yi, the eldest daughter of a top-tier family, reunites with Zhou Shiyu, born into a distinguished family of scholars. From their first glance, their features seem strangely familiar, and their unspoken understanding feels etched into their bones.

In public, the two keep a proper distance and conduct themselves with grace, earning praise across the internet as perfect soulmates. Alone together, they shed every disguise, their eyes brimming with the burning affection they feel for each other alone. Their fellow guests have long seen through this secret love and tacitly keep it to themselves. The two families have been close for generations, and their elders have all seen through the pair’s feelings and quietly support them, letting the outside world believe they are simply kindred spirits and best friends.

The ancient city’s gray-tiled roofs and misty rain awaken memories of a past life sealed away for a century.

In the same city during the Republic of China era, they were two peerless beauties living across a narrow lane, gazing at each other from afar. In those days, rules of propriety were strict and society’s chains weighed heavily. In public, they had to observe the proper decorum of young ladies and deliberately keep their distance, expressing themselves only in hints. Only behind closed doors in a secluded courtyard could they shed their dignified façades and entrust each other with their sincere, passionate hearts. As the turbulent times tossed them about, they joined hands to face society’s condemnation, using a love too small to change the world, yet steadfast enough to sustain them, to protect a secret romance in a repressive age.

In their past life, they hid their love through the years, staying together in silence, too afraid to speak of it.

In this life, they meet again in a peaceful, prosperous age, and their love no longer needs to be entirely concealed.

Bound by a fated bond spanning a century of reincarnation, they journey from the misty old lanes of the Republic of China to the bustling modern world. Years change and lifetimes turn, but their love for each other remains true.
