My Empress Dowager Is a Little Sweet

Yu Qi, a thirty-year-old government official, finds a strange, unfamiliar woman named Chen Ning while jogging at night in Yutan River Park.

She wears ancient-style undergarments and a white jade hairpin. She has no idea how to use a showerhead or gas stove, and speaks constantly of the imperial court, commoners, and fire strikers, yet knows her way around memorials, the allocation of money and grain, and the balance of power at court.

The local police station has no record of her. With a liability form in hand, Yu Qi takes this woman of mysterious origins home with him.

It turns out she has not lost her memory. She comes from another timeline, the Great Zhou, where she once ruled as empress dowager for seven years.

Plunged into the modern world, she has no golden finger or world-defying abilities, only the composure and weariness forged through years at court.

She learns to scan QR codes to pay, read modern almanacs, and understand government and public opinion. With the perspective of someone who has governed for thousands of years, she observes and advises Yu Qi as his career rises and falls.

On one side are the power struggles in Lingzhou's bureaucracy and the intractable problems facing its townships, where the young official Yu Qi treads carefully at every step.

On the other, the former empress dowager lays down her authority and learns to live as an ordinary person, easing the heavy burden of seven years on the throne amid the everyday bustle of life.

There are no dramatic, cheat-powered comebacks, only two adults carrying the weight of their pasts, listening to and supporting each other as they seek a gentle, peaceful haven amid life's ups and downs.

[Slow-burn warning] This is not a fast-paced, face-slapping power fantasy. It focuses on logic and the characters' inner lives, so readers who prefer high-conflict wish-fulfillment stories should proceed with caution.
