In the twenty-sixth year of the Republic of China, An Lie was sent from Yan'an to Taiyuan. He lurked in the Japanese and puppet special high school and worked as a "traitor" for five years; he also sneaked into the military command and worked as a spy for three years. He personally signed the execution order of the underground party, and also passed on the information that helped the Eighth Route Army turn the corner. He loved and lost people. He walked from Taiyuan to Chongqing, from Chongqing to Nanjing, and from Nanjing to Beijing. He lived through the sufferings of China throughout the twentieth century, and finally closed his eyes in the hospital bed. This is not a heroic epic, but a story about a man stepping on his own blood in the dark and seeing a new China for the dead.
