Charcoal-Grilled Lamb Yang's 44th Book

When Fang Jun opens his eyes, he finds himself in the body of Fang Yiai. He also has a flood of new memories: it is the sixth year of the Zhenguan era of the Tang dynasty, his father is Fang Xuanling, and his fiancée is Princess Gaoyang.

The same Gaoyang who will cuckold him and eventually have him executed by being cut in half at the waist.

“I’m not marrying this princess.”

In the Taiji Hall, Fang Jun says those four words to Li Shimin’s face. The whole hall falls silent, and his father drops to his knees, white as a sheet.

Li Shimin sneers. “You think you can just refuse to marry my daughter?”

“Your Majesty, I want to make my way on my own merits.” Fang Jun looks up and speaks slowly and clearly. “Give me five hundred men and two months, and I’ll bring back the heads of the Turkic royal court.”

The hall erupts. Changsun Wuji laughs out loud.

Fang Jun turns to him. “Uncle Changsun, how about a wager? If I pull it off, you’ll ask His Majesty to marry Princess Changle to me.”

Three months later.

Black powder blasts through the roof of the Turkic royal court. Fang Jun returns to Chang’an carrying the head of the Turkic khagan, sending the entire city into an uproar.

Changsun Wuji hands over the marriage contract, his face livid.

Princess Gaoyang storms into the Taiji Hall like a madwoman. “Father! How can he refuse to marry me?”

Meanwhile, Fang Jun walks down Vermilion Bird Avenue, hand in hand with Princess Changle.

The people of the city point and whisper. “Look, that’s the second son of the Fang family. He turned down one of His Majesty’s daughters, then married another.”
