A Famine Year in Another World: I Use Copper Coins to Ask Demons for the Good Life

[Strange tales and legends + farming + character growth and progression + making a fortune]

Reborn as his counterpart in another world, he gets a second chance at life. But as soon as he looks up, he finds that his family’s money has just been gambled away by his former self. Winter is almost here, his father is badly injured, his big brother is a pushover, and he’s even lost a soul. In this world of spirits and strange happenings, whenever the weather turns cloudy or rainy, his vital energy leaks away like air from a punctured ball.

And the moment he opens his eyes, an old ghost is blocking the door. He’s got all the makings of a doomed extra.

There’s no way out at all. Lin Yi thinks he’s as good as dead.

Unexpectedly, though, a copper coin he picked up as a child lets him defy fate and change his destiny.

Other people risk their lives to hunt demons. He hunts them by consulting mountain spirits. In private, the soul monsters everyone fears become his informants, knocking on his door every day to curry favor.

With heavy snow sealing off the mountain, he shoulders his weapon and heads up to hunt wild chestnuts, rock badgers, hundred-year-old softshell turtles, and red lingzhi mushrooms.

He turns his family’s life from one of going hungry into one with meat at every meal. His former fiancee, the girl he once adored, stubbornly clings to him after breaking off their engagement.

Lin Yi says she’s too late. Isn’t a cunning, possessive little wife much better?

Everyone says Lin Yi’s ancestors’ graves must be glowing with good fortune. He just smiles and says nothing.
