They Covet My Spirit Root, But I'll Keep a Low Profile for Now

Jiang Linye is known throughout Qingxi Town as a “cultivation failure.” He has a single spiritual root, but his progress bar moves slower than a snail. Still, he has a good clan chief who gives him pills every year and treats him better than his own grandfather does. He also has a childhood friend, Song Weiling, a spoiled young lady who is kind only to him.

Before his fifteenth birthday, Song Weiling tells him through tears: “The clan chief wants to dig out your spiritual root! You actually have five spiritual roots! And I’m being forced to marry someone, too!” Jiang Linye: “...Should I still take the pills?” Song Weiling: “Forget the pills! Run!”

So the two “failures” flee in the middle of the night. They fall off a cliff, stumble upon a chance encounter, and break a seal. The five spiritual roots are real, and so is the fact that he hasn’t bound a spirit beast yet. As for what comes next? First they’ll join a sect and find a master. Once they’re strong enough, they’ll come back and settle the score.
