After My Parents Gambled Away Everything and Ran Off, I Got a Little Sister

[Romance] [Everyday Life] [Urban] [Multiple Heroines] [Light Novel] [Younger Sister] [Junior Schoolmate] [Chuunibyou]

Chu Nan often thinks back to the day he was fourteen, when that girl came to live at his house.

It was October in the south. The wind carried a hint of chill, and the alleys in the old district always had a damp, musty smell that never quite went away.

It was the second year since he’d moved back from the city center to this two-story, self-built house, and he’d already gotten used to the smell.

It was a Saturday, so he didn’t have class. He was curled up in the living room on the first floor doing homework.

When he heard a knock at the door, he assumed it was the man who came to collect the water and electricity bills.

The moment he opened it, he thought he was hallucinating.

Long silver-white hair fell to her waist, and her deep blue eyes were as clear as gemstones. Her features had a distinctly mixed-race look.

She wore a blue sundress and stood in the cool October breeze, like something that didn’t belong in this world.

Like an angel.

For a moment, he forgot to breathe.

The scar-faced man stood behind her, one hand on her shoulder. For once, he wasn’t giving Chu Nan his usual fierce scowl.

“Just like you, this kid’s parents owe the boss a lot of money and ran off. The boss says she can stay here. Her living expenses will be...”

He waved at Chu Nan and left the sentence unfinished.

Then he lowered his head and glanced at the girl.

She looked up, her deep blue eyes meeting Chu Nan’s.

“B-Big brother~”

Her voice was so soft it seemed ready to break.

“Can you... be my big brother?”

The scar-faced man said nothing more. He simply turned and left.

Then, one day a month later, the creditor sent over a new bill: her living expenses had doubled.
