He wakes up to find he has transmigrated into the world of Journey to the West as Sun Wukong, only to start out already trapped beneath a mountain for five hundred years.
His life as a monkey seems hopeless. The world of Journey to the West is full of hidden dangers, and apart from obediently completing the pilgrimage and becoming a monk, what else can he do?
Storm Heaven and Spirit Mountain? Topple the Jade Emperor and the Tathagata?
How many bowls of wine did you have? You're completely drunk!
Then, all at once:
"Ding! The Monkey Life Comeback System has awakened."
Just as he starts to feel there's hope for his life, the System's mission leaves him dumbfounded.
"Mission One: Host, please jump out of the rock early. Reward: The Dao De Jing."
The System shows up thousands of years too late. I'm already on the pilgrimage, and you're telling me to jump out of a rock?
But to avoid becoming a monk, Wukong decides to overcome the challenge.
I've been born for thousands of years. What rock am I supposed to jump out of?
What counts as a rock? Mount Five Elements is a rock too!
"Mission Two: Host, please become the king of Flower-Fruit Mountain."
But Flower-Fruit Mountain was turned into ruins five hundred years ago!
So what if it's just ruins? I'll rebuild it myself!
"Mission Three: Host, please..."
And so, with the monkey guiding the way, the pilgrimage takes a completely different turn.
The four masters and disciples stumble along, their journey changing from a pilgrimage into a rebellion.
"Final Mission: Host, your monkey life has finally reached a major turning point. Heaven lies ahead. Go wild and raise as much havoc as you like."
