Breaking Through to Promotion

A letter appointing him to a government-sponsored trainee program takes young Lin Feng to the remote town of Qingchuan. What others see as a chance to pad their resumes is, for him, the beginning of a trial by fire. Faced with tangled personal ties at the grassroots and a workplace knotted with competing interests, Lin Feng has no powerful connections. But he does have two “weapons”: a sincere desire to serve the people and an ancestral medical art kept secret from the world. His skills save the village bully's father in a moment of crisis, turning the situation around. At the negotiating table, he uses them to ease an investor's chronic ailment and win their trust. Yet medicine can save a life in an emergency, but it cannot cure the corruption in people's hearts. From town to county, city to province, Lin Feng faces not only complex economic development and people's livelihood challenges, but also a web of corruption linking low-level “flies” to high-ranking “tigers.”

When he saves a former senior official suffering a sudden heart attack and earns special attention, his opponents step up their attempts to ensnare him. When he uses acupuncture to overcome a deadly plot involving poison, his anti-corruption campaign grows ever more perilous. On the scales of power and principle, every step is treacherous. In the struggle between personal ties and the law, every choice cuts deep. This is the workplace epic of a man growing from idealism into maturity, and a sweeping anti-corruption storm reaching from the grassroots to the highest levels. See how Lin Feng uses medicine as his brush and hard work as his ink, saving people's bodies and healing the heart of the nation in this world called “Qingyun,” until he finally writes an answer worthy of his era.
