Master of Yin-Yang and Feng Shui

[Supernatural Horror] [Folk Mysticism] [Battles of the Occult] [Bickering Couple]

My name is Chen Jiuyou. My master gave me that name.

He said I was born in the underworld hour of the ninth month, on a yin year, yin month, yin day, and yin hour. My entire Eight Characters birth chart was yin, making me a natural “coffin-born child.” The day I was born, my mother bled to death, my father went mad and threw himself down a well, and the midwife who delivered me went home and died suddenly, bleeding from all seven orifices. The whole village called me a jinx and wanted to throw me into a mass grave.

My master was the one who saved me.

He was a filthy old man, a slob who carried a ragged cloth bag everywhere. The villagers all called him “the crazy old man.” But he taught me the secrets of feng shui, Qimen Dunjia, talismans and formations, corpse-driving, and ghost-catching. He said I was born with yin-yang eyes, making me the most naturally suited person in the world for this line of work.

“Jiuyou,” he said one day, sipping wine and narrowing his eyes at me, “you’re cursed with the Lone Star of Heavenly Calamity, and you’re destined to suffer the Five Banes and Three Deficiencies. You’ll have at least three of these: widowerhood, widowhood, orphanhood, solitude, and disability. If you want to stay alive, you’ll have to do good deeds and build up hidden virtue.”
