Naruto: The Tales of Qianye, Starting as a Lazy Ninja

Chiya Nagi, the last heir of the Chiya clan of Konohagakure.

Awakening with fragmentary memories of his previous life, he quickly figured out three things:

First, this was a dangerous world called the world of ninjas.

Second, the Book of Chiya in his mind could record any ninjutsu, but at the cost of erasing his memories.

Third, all he really wanted was to find a quiet corner and take an afternoon nap.

At the Ninja Academy, he scored sixty-eight on written exams and barely passed ninjutsu. He was neither at the bottom nor at the top, and his life plan was crystal clear: graduate without incident, take some D-rank missions finding lost cats and dogs, save up, and open a teahouse.

However...

“Chiya Nagi, why do you always just barely pass?”

“You, how come you run faster than anyone else when it really matters?”

“Tenten, if I don't stand in front of you, I'll have to repeat a year with you, and that's such a hassle.”

“Chiya, why do you always have to run your mouth?”

“Mahiro, I'm a sensory ninja. Next time you talk about me behind my back, remember to do it from farther away.”

“Why... are you always looking at me?”

“Don't get the wrong idea, Yamanaka. I'm just spacing out.”

A lazy Genin who constantly complained about what a pain everything was, yet always stepped in when it mattered; a mysterious book that could record forbidden jutsu but devoured the past; and a few companions who were driven up the wall by him but trusted him completely.

Gradually, he came to understand that lost memories should be filled with new bonds, and that sometimes, peace could only be protected by drawing a kunai.

“I'm the kind of person who hates trouble, hates standing out, hates taking difficult missions, and hates changing history even more. But do you know what I'm most afraid of? I'm most afraid that the people I know won't come back. So all of you, stay alive.”
