"Hidden Knife in a Smile" is an original full-length series based on Stephen Chow's classic screen works such as "Tang Bohu Spots Autumn Fragrance", "Westward Journey" and "Kung Fu". It relies on oral tradition from generation to generation and theatrical troupe context to convey secret modern family and country inheritance stories. The whole chapter is divided into three core units: "A Bohu Cries Blood", "A Westward Journey" and "Kung Fu Awakening", connecting the three major families of the Laughter Society, the Beggar Clan and the Zhou family, and the secret past that has been passed down for three hundred years.
It uses ordinary little characters as the narrative cut-off, and uses the shell of nonsensical comedy to dig deep into the core of the Chinese cultural heritage hidden behind the classic film and television: after the Revolution in the late Ming Dynasty, Liu's comedy club used opera to hide secrets, the beggar gang hid in the market, and the Zhou family borrowed folk arts from generation to generation to influence future generations. In order to preserve the national memory, the three ethnic groups adhere to the ancestral motto of "use laughter as a shield and drama as a sword". After several generations of dormancy, from ancient drama secrets to modern movie secret codes, they wrap blood and tears with comedy, and hide the national suffering and sages' integrity into screen stories. The protagonist A, as a contemporary film critic, accidentally cracks the hidden code of film and television, follows clues to search for relics, traces the inheritance, connects the life trajectories of generations of inheritors such as Hua'an, Zhizunbao, and A Xing, and finally reveals the secret of three hundred years of protection.
