This is a dual-male-lead channel, and this novel is written for my own OC. One-on-one romance, happy ending.
After his seventh job application was rejected, He Shu’s phone displayed a recruitment ad.
“Assistant wanted. Requirements: a strong birth chart, courage and attention to detail, and a belief that the world holds more than what meets the eye.”
Nobody else on the subway could see the notification. Only he could. With just 432 yuan and 60 cents left in his bank account, he hailed a cab and was dropped at the end of a narrow alley in the old city. A plaque hung above the doorway: Scroll Pavilion.
The bookstore owner was Gu Juan. The day He Shu walked in, the book in Gu Juan’s hands fell to the floor. It wasn’t that he’d lost his grip: his fingers had loosened as soon as he saw He Shu’s face. He Shu looked exactly like the boy who had protected him at the orphanage fifteen years ago. But Gu Juan reacted as if he’d seen a ghost. After having him sort a book, he told him not to come back the next day.
He Shu didn’t leave. The next day, he pushed open that door again.
Later, he learned the reason. He was the fifth-generation Story Corrector, chosen by an ancient book with no words. His mission was to mend the cracks in the Source Canon, the origin of all stories. The price was his soul: each use took a little more, until at last the world would erase him like a typo. None of the first four Correctors had lived past the age of twenty-three.
Gu Juan had waited a thousand years for him. In every lifetime, he found him, taught him to use his abilities, and then sent him off with his own hands. This time, he didn’t want to go through it all again.
But He Shu said, “Then I’ll be the first one to survive.”
