During an unusual observation, Hajimi hears a whisper from the depths of space.

“Sequence Nine, the Listener.”

From that night on, his body becomes an antenna. He can hear the pulse of stars, the tremors of the earth’s crust, and even the regret that has lain dormant in his mind for seventeen years. The Ninth Bureau comes to him and tells him that humanity has heard the universe before.

Some went mad. Some disappeared. Some ascended into monsters.

And Sequence Nine is only the lowest rank. The higher the sequence, the closer one gets to the truth, and the easier it is for the beings in deep space to see them.

But when he finally hears the universe for himself, he discovers the truth:

Deep space is not silent.

It has been watching humanity all along.
