I think the whole story is actually about two people who don't know how to love and gradually understand what correct love is through conflicts and contradictions. First of all, Fu Yan didn't understand love or what feelings were. He just gave all his possessions to Jian Ningyi. He was afraid in his heart, afraid of being thrown away, and afraid that the nightmare of not being firmly chosen as a child would reappear, so he tied Jian Ningyi to him in an "incorrect" way. Coupled with the trauma his family brought to him when he was a child, he mistakenly believed that "discipline" was love and an expression of emotion, so he blindly "imposed" these "incorrect" methods on Jian Ningyi. Secondly, for Jian Ningyi, his entire experience is very similar to Fu Yan's. He has never been firmly chosen, and he craves a "deformed" form of "attention." He was terrified in his heart, terrified that he would be abandoned by Fu Yan, so he would challenge Fu Yan's authority over and over again, and then gain attention. His running away is actually a manifestation of his insecurity and his lack of confidence in this abnormal relationship. Therefore, in the repeated escapes and repeated conflicts, the two of them became more aware of their status and emotional intensity between each other, and then they no longer hesitated or questioned. Fu Yan understood love, and so did Jian Ningyi. Then the two people who didn't understand love were very clumsy and at a loss while stumbling, and finally came together. Again, what I actually want to say is that the ending I set at the beginning was not like this. The two people have similar identities, similar origins, and some small details. In fact, they all serve my reverse ending. But after writing it, I couldn't bear it, or maybe the character itself had grown the soul it deserved. In short, that reversal ending will lead the two people to a point of no return, but that is not the ending they deserve. They have reached happiness on their own. Maybe for the reverse ending, it is indeed "not full" and a little bit off, but "not full, happy", everything is just right. The characters themselves move towards the happiness that should belong to them, and they are happy to begin with. Finally, make a cocoon to bind yourself, make a simple letter to yourself.
