Internet writer Shen Qingyue rented room 47 in an old apartment on the outskirts of the city in order to catch up on her manuscript. In the first week after moving in, she always heard regular knocking sounds from next door at three o'clock in the morning. She thought it was a water pipe problem until she found a yellowed note rolled into a small tube in the gap between the kitchen wall tiles. On it were seven words crookedly written in lipstick: "Don't believe what the landlord says."
