I stared at the time in the lower right corner of my computer screen.
Three forty-seven in the morning.
I was the only one left at the workstation, and the fluorescent tube above my head made a buzzing sound, like a mosquito buzzing around my ears. I have been working overtime for forty-six consecutive hours. My eyelids are as heavy as lead. There is a layer of solidified brown sediment on the bottom of the coffee cup, which looks like blood scabs.
The plan was changed to the fourteenth version, and Party A still posted a voice message in the group, saying that he felt it "didn't feel right" and asked me to "revise another version to find out what I feel."
I took a deep breath and typed the next line in the dialog box: "Okay Mr. Wang, I will change it right away."
The other party's last message popped up in the chat box: "By the way, Xiao Shen, your plan is generally conservative. Can you be more bold?"
I felt like something in my brain had snapped.
His vision went black for a while, his fingers slipped from the keyboard, and he leaned back. My last thought before I collapsed was - Damn it, I haven't bought a cemetery yet.
Then came the violent impact.
There was no pain, just a strange feeling of weightlessness, as if the whole person had been pulled out of the body. I looked down and saw that my back fell to the ground first, my head hit the metal armrest of the office chair with a muffled sound, and then my whole body slipped to the ground softly.
I'm dead.
This realization came incredibly calmingly. I was floating in the air, looking at the pale self on the ground, and my first reaction was: I can finally rest.
