I was shoving the last of my consultation notes into the shredder when all the lights in the studio went out.
The sound of flapping wings came from overhead, not as heavy as a bird's.
The next second, something pecked me on the back of my neck. The pain made me slam into the desk. I flicked my backhand, and the glass flew out and hit the wall, shattering crisply.
"Don't move, don't move. Your hands are so strong."
The sound was like nails scratching a blackboard, piercing my eardrums from the top of my head. I looked up suddenly and saw a shiny black crow squatting on the ceiling chandelier. Its eyes were blood red, and it was looking at me with its neck tilted.
Holy shit.
"Shen Ci, a top emotional analyst, has been in the industry for five years and has never failed to break up a couple." Crow said, his voice as cunning as if he was reciting his lines, "Congratulations, you have been selected by the love destruction system. I am your execution system, codenamed Crow."
I rubbed the back of my neck and felt a wet patch. His hands were covered in blood.
"You fucking pecked me." I stared at it, "You'd better tell me clearly, or I'll pluck your hair and stew it in soup."
The crow fluttered its wings and landed on the edge of the photo frame on my desk. It tapped the glass with its beak and made a crisp sound: "To put it simply, you have to complete 100 breakup tasks before you can return to the real world. Every time I break up a fake couple, I will read you a piece of their inner monologue - guaranteed to make your scalp numb."
I sneered: "Why?"
