A Lament for the Southern Song

In the final years of the Southern Song, fires of war blazed everywhere. The cannons of Diaoyu Fortress shook the Mongol leader Mongke, while bloody battles raged across the waters of Ezhou.

The mighty general Liu Zheng had won countless victories, but was pushed aside and framed by the court. Driven to betray the Song and surrender a city, he shook the defenses of Sichuan and Shu.

The story lays the groundwork for the loyalty and sacrifice of Wen Tianxiang, Lu Xiufu, and Zhang Shijie, portraying the rivalries among the officials and generals of the dying Song dynasty, along with the joys and sorrows of soldiers and civilians.

The first book is complete. The full story of a nation and its people awaits in the second.
