The protagonist starts out as a "weak scholar" who was exiled, but he has the "Eye of Life and Death": he can see key fragments of the life of people who are dying or dead, and can use "Yin De" to purchase the "complete memory" of any scene. He used this ability to open a coffin shop in the exile, with the cold Yizhuang at his back. On the surface, he was collecting unknown corpses for the Yamen. In fact, in the "memory playback" of each corpse, he unearthed the handles of the powerful, the burial location of the lost treasures, and top-secret information that had long been lost in the court. He exchanged the secrets from the corpse for living power, and climbed step by step from the mountain of corpses to the center of power.
